Title: Iggy Loomis:Superkid in Training
Daniel has just made friends with Alistair, the new kid next door. However, it turns out that Alistair is an alien studying bugs on planet earth. When Daniel’s little brother Iggy digest some of these samples, it changes Iggy’s DNA and gives him some interesting powers. Is it possible to change Iggy back? And what about the nosy, annoying neighbor who gets his hands on alien technology and turns himself into an Insta-Monster?
Any child who has had to share a room with a sibling will immediately warm to this book! As Daniel and Iggy have to cohabitate you feel for Daniel’s plight. I also felt the book was nicely written for this genre - meaning it was funny but never gross or inappropriate. The boy on the front cover with underwear outside his pants may give you a different impression, but I assure you it is good clean fun.
This book is great for kids who are proficient readers but who have not yet made the leap to middle grade fiction. There are plenty of graphics and larger type.
Final thoughts:
Nice start to a series. Thankfully the bug boy genre has not been overdone.
